Custom special-shaped Alnico magnets are widely used when standard disc, block, or cylinder magnets cannot meet assembly or magnetic circuit requirements. By adjusting the shape, dimensions, and magnetic orientation, Alnico magnets can be adapted to specific product structures and working conditions.
Alnico is a permanent magnet material made primarily from aluminum, nickel, cobalt, and iron. It is valued for excellent temperature stability, good corrosion resistance, and strong residual induction. Compared with many other permanent magnet materials, Alnico is especially suitable for applications exposed to elevated temperatures and harsh industrial environments. Depending on design needs, Alnico magnets can be manufactured in cast or sintered forms, with cast Alnico commonly used for near-net-shape and customized geometries.
These custom-shaped Alnico magnets can be applied in motors, sensors, meters, magnetic holders, industrial fixtures, audio components, and high-temperature equipment. For customized projects, SDM Magnetics can support shape design, dimensional adjustment, magnetic performance matching, and production based on drawings or samples.
Because Alnico has relatively low coercivity compared with some other permanent magnet materials, the magnet design and working environment should be considered carefully during product development. This makes engineering support and application matching important when selecting customized Alnico magnet solutions.

High Temperature Stability: Alnico magnets have one of the highest working temperatures of any magnetic material, up to 550°C, which makes them ideal for high temperature applications where other types of magnets would demagnetize.
Strong Corrosion Resistance: They are highly resistant to corrosion and do not require protective coatings, which can be advantageous in applications exposed to harsh environments.
High Residual Induction: Alnico magnets provide a strong magnetic field, giving them a high residual induction compared to other permanent magnets. This makes them very effective in generating a strong magnetic output.
Excellent Magnetic Stability: Alnico magnets have good stability over a wide range of temperatures and are less likely to lose their magnetism when exposed to external magnetic fields or thermal stress.
Versatility in Manufacturing: They can be cast or sintered, allowing for a wide range of complex shapes and sizes. Cast Alnico allows for the most precise control over the magnet's properties, while sintered Alnico offers slightly lower magnetic output but better mechanical characteristics.
